How Is Colour Matched Ribbon Made?

Rather than manufacturing and dyeing an entirely new batch of ribbon at source, our colour-matched ribbon is produced using specialist sublimation printing.

The required colour is printed into the ribbon using heat and specialist inks, creating the appearance of a custom coloured ribbon without requiring thousands of metres to be manufactured in a bespoke dye batch.

This gives businesses much greater flexibility when they need a particular ribbon colour in more practical quantities.

Is Pantone Matched Ribbon an Exact Colour Match?

We describe our service as colour matched rather than guaranteeing an exact Pantone match.

Pantone references, CMYK values, HEX codes and RGB colours are useful starting points, but colour can reproduce differently when transferred onto textile materials compared with a computer screen, printed paper or a Pantone colour card.

Our aim is always to produce the closest achievable match using the ribbon and printing process selected.

Traditionally, creating a completely bespoke ribbon colour can involve manufacturing and dyeing ribbon specifically for one customer. This normally requires very large production quantities and considerably longer lead times.

Sublimation gives us a much more practical solution for customers who want a particular colour without ordering thousands of metres of custom-dyed ribbon.

It’s particularly useful for short-term campaigns, events, product launches and businesses that want colour consistency without committing to industrial manufacturing quantities.

You don’t necessarily need to add a logo.

If the colour itself is the important part of your project, choose a plain colour-matched ribbon.

What If One of Our Stock Ribbon Colours Is Already Close?

Colour matching isn’t always necessary.

We hold around 50 standard satin ribbon colours, so it’s worth checking whether one of our stock colours already works with your branding.

If it does, a stock ribbon colour may provide a simpler and more economical option, particularly if you only need a single-colour logo or wording printed onto it.
