What Is Eco-Friendly Ribbon?

There isn’t one single material called “eco-friendly ribbon”. Different ribbons can offer different environmental benefits depending on the material used, how it is manufactured and what you need the ribbon to do.

Our range includes options made using recycled materials as well as ribbons manufactured from alternative materials such as cellulose-based acetate.

The right choice depends on how the ribbon will be used, the finish you’re looking for and whether you would also like it custom printed.

Recycled Ribbon Made From 100% Recycled Plastic Bottles

Our recycled ribbon is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. Used plastic bottles are collected, cleaned and processed before the recycled material is converted into fibres and woven into ribbon.

According to our supplier, the ribbon is manufactured in the UK, providing an alternative for businesses and customers looking to incorporate recycled materials into their packaging and presentation.

It can be used for gift wrapping, branded packaging, corporate gifts, events and other applications where you would normally consider a conventional ribbon.

Can Recycled Ribbon Be Custom Printed?

Yes. Selected recycled ribbons can be personalised with your company logo, wording or design, allowing you to combine branded packaging with a recycled ribbon option.

We use eco-friendly inks when printing our recycled ribbon, in line with the specifications provided by our suppliers.

Depending on the ribbon and artwork, we can offer different printing options. If you’re unsure whether your logo is suitable, send it to us and we’ll advise you before Your Ribbon goes to print.

Cellulose-Based and Acetate Ribbon

Another option within our sustainable ribbon range is acetate satin ribbon, which is manufactured using cellulose-based material.

Acetate ribbon has a slightly firmer feel than conventional polyester satin, which can make it particularly useful for gift wrapping and bow making.

It isn’t suitable for every application — including garments or machine washing — so choosing ribbon according to how it will actually be used is important.

Which Eco-Friendly Ribbon Is Best for Packaging?

That depends on the job.

For gift boxes, hampers and presentation packaging, consider the width of the box, how the ribbon will be tied and whether you want your branding printed onto it.

For business packaging, consistency may also be important. If you’re planning repeat orders, talk to us about the quantities and specification you are likely to need so we can recommend a practical option.

Recyclable, Recycled and Biodegradable Ribbon – What’s the Difference?

These terms aren’t interchangeable.

Recycled ribbon contains material that has previously been used and processed into a new material or product.

Recyclable ribbon describes ribbon that may be capable of being processed after use, subject to its material and the recycling facilities available.

Biodegradable ribbon refers to material capable of breaking down biologically under appropriate conditions.

If a particular environmental property is important for your project, check the specification of the individual ribbon rather than assuming every sustainable ribbon has the same characteristics.
