What Are Washable Printed Satin Labels?
Our washable labels are created by printing your chosen design repeatedly along satin ribbon.
The finished ribbon is supplied on a roll. You can then cut each individual label to the required length and sew it into your garment or textile product by hand or machine.
This gives you flexibility over the finished label size and means you don’t have to commit to a large quantity of individually manufactured labels.
What Can Be Printed on the Labels?
Depending on the ribbon width and design, your labels can include:

The available space naturally depends on the width of ribbon selected, so simpler designs are generally better on narrower labels.
Wash Care Labels for Clothing
Printed satin ribbon can be used to create wash care labels carrying the information needed for your particular product.
You choose the wording and symbols required and we’ll prepare the print layout to repeat along the ribbon.
If you’re producing clothing or textile products commercially, it’s your responsibility to make sure the information shown on your labels meets any applicable labelling requirements for the products and markets you’re selling into.

Can the Printed Labels Be Washed?
Yes. These labels are produced using a washable printing process designed for textile applications.
Our current washable print option is suitable for washing up to 65°C.
If your finished product will require particularly demanding washing, industrial laundering or another specialist process, please tell us before ordering so we can check whether this printing method is suitable.
How Are the Labels Supplied?
Your printed labels arrive as continuous personalised ribbon on a roll.
They are not individually cut, folded or sewn.
This keeps the product flexible and economical: you decide how long each finished label needs to be and cut them as required.
Do I Need to Allow Extra Ribbon for Sewing?
Yes. When deciding the length of each label, remember to allow enough material for the ends that will be sewn into the garment or product.
The amount you need depends on how you’re attaching and finishing the label.
It’s worth making a sample label first before cutting an entire roll.
Will Cut Satin Labels Fray?
Satin ribbon is a woven material, so untreated cut edges can fray.
How you finish the label therefore depends on the way it will be used and sewn into the finished product.
If the cut ends will be enclosed within a seam, they may not remain visible. Other applications may require an appropriate edge-finishing method.
How Many Labels Will I Get from 5 Metres?
That depends entirely on the finished length of each label.
For example, before allowing for any cutting or wastage:
- A 50mm-long label gives approximately 100 labels from 5 metres
- A 75mm-long label gives approximately 66 labels from 5 metres
- A 100mm-long label gives approximately 50 labels from 5 metres
Always allow some additional ribbon for testing, cutting and the way your labels will be sewn into the product.
