Our 48mm biodegradable acetate satin ribbon is made from cellulose derived from sustainably sourced pine and eucalyptus wood pulp. This wide ribbon has a beautiful satin sheen on one side and a matt finish on the reverse, providing an eco-friendly alternative to conventional polyester satin for gift wrapping, packaging and decorative bows.
At 48mm wide, the ribbon creates a substantial finish and is particularly suited to larger gift boxes, hampers, luxury packaging and statement bows. Acetate satin has a slightly firmer feel than polyester satin, helping bows retain their shape beautifully after tying.
This product is supplied on a 100 metre roll, making it particularly suitable for businesses, retailers, gift companies and customers using wide ribbon regularly.
The acetate used to manufacture this ribbon begins with wood pulp sourced from pine and eucalyptus trees. The wood is processed to extract cellulose, which is then reacted with acetic acid to produce acetate material.
This is formed into granules, dissolved in acetone and extruded to create a 59% biobased acetate yarn.
According to the manufacturer, the yarn is produced in the USA using an almost closed-loop production system, where waste generated during production is reused, recycled or made available for other uses. The finished acetate yarn is certified as biodegradable.
48mm – approximately 4.8cm – is a generous ribbon width that makes the ribbon an important part of the finished presentation. It works particularly well on larger packaging where a narrow ribbon can become visually lost.
The slightly firmer structure of acetate satin is particularly useful at this width. It gives larger bow loops more body and helps them retain their shape, creating an attractive, structured finish.
